Micro Tutorial: Funny Octopus in Affinity Designer

Affinity Designer Micro Tutorials is a new series of quick tips and tricks that only gonna take you 5 minutes or less to go through and will save you perhaps hours of research online. Master your illustration skills, 5 minutes at a time!

So let’s get started:

Add a new rectangle, fill it with your favorite color and using the Corner Tool reshape… well,  its corners.

Let’s add the legs. using the Pen Tool draw some lines like in the picture above (I know, this is more like a quadruped than an octopus… but you get the idea)

Then, using again the Corner Tool reshape the lines you’ve just created, so they look softer.

Our legs look too skinny aren’t they? select them all, then increase their stroke Width about 30-35px, the using the Pressure function located in the same Stroke Panel, draw a Pressure Profile similar to the one in the picture above.

And that would be pretty much it! Add a pair of eyes, a mouth… or any detail you prefer. Now you can create a whole octopus family in no time! See you next time! Please don’t forget to share this tutorial and add your comments at the bottom. Your feedback and questions are always welcome.
